The first civilizations sprang up alongside the banks of major rivers in order to irrigate their agricultural fields. it began in the middle east and went on for may centuries but most declined by 1000bc.

    Essential Question – What were the River Valley Civilizations?

  • On the Right Side – 
    ·       Cut and Paste the River Valleys Map in your Journal  
    ·       Shade (color) the regions of each of the four early river valley civilizations (See the image. Be sure to include a key for easy reference and time period for each.)

    On the Left Side – 
    ·       Write the letters A - R and numbers 1 - 6.  These numbers/letters will correspond to locations on the map.
    ·       From the list below, write in where each of these places are located next to the letter/number.

    o   Atlas Mountains, Alps Mountains, Tigris River, Euphrates River, Indus River, Persian Gulf, Lake Victoria, Sahara Desert, The Black Sea, The Caspian Sea, Ural Mtns., Himalaya Mtns., Huang He River, Yangtze River, Kalahari Desert, The Mediterranean Sea, The Arabian Sea, The Pacific and Indian Oceans, The Yellow Sea, the Sea of Japan, The Nile River, The Dneiper River, and The Red Sea.
