"The Renaissance"

The School of Athens is one of the most famous frescoes by the Italian Renaissance artist Raphael. It was painted between 1509 and 1510 as a part of Raphael's commission to decorate with frescoes the rooms now known as the Stanze di Raffaello, in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.

b. Identify artistic and scientific achievements of Leonardo da Vinci, the “Renaissance man,” and Michelangelo.

·       On the Right Side - Answer the following:

1) What was the Renaissance? 
2) What were Italy's three advantages? 
3) How did Italy’s urban population help to make it the birthplace of the Renaissance?
4) Who are the Medici’s?
5) What was the role of the patrons in the Renaissance?

·       On the Left Side - create a graphic organizer that describes the accomplishments of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.

·       Underneath on the Left Side describe what a Renaissance man was and why da Vinci is described as one.

The Renaissance, a movement which stressed the ideas of the classical world, has been described as ending the medieval era and heralding the start of the modern age. Its causes were many, all deeply interconnected and now historians debate the relative importance of each, as well as when the Renaissance actually began.
Investigate the eight causes of the Renaissance.

"Renaissance," French for "rebirth," perfectly describes the intellectual and economic changes that occurred in Europe from the fourteenth through the sixteenth centuries.

Summarize the main points about the Renaissance by exploring the links.  You can complete a graphic organizer or type a paper 1-2 pages in length.
