·       On the Right Side-create and complete a graphic organizer labeled “Native American Societies”.   Include details about the Maya, Aztec and Inca civilizations in the following areas: 

       Rise (Origins)
       Government
       Economy
       Religion
       Fall


·       On the Left Side - complete “Latin America Map” using the blank world map of Central and South American Map shade (color) the regions of each of the four early societies (Olmec, Maya, Aztec, and Inca) include a key for easy reference and time period for each (you can use the pictures from the gallery below for help.)

The ancient Olmec civilization is now considered to be one of the earliest great civilizations in Mesoamerica.  This civilization came and went long before the Aztec empire was even thought of, and yet they left their mark on the peoples of Mexico and beyond, and developed a complex culture which is still echoed today, probably in ways we don't yet even realize.

One of the earliest civilizations in Middle America.  Called the "Mother Culture."  Lived along the southern coast of the Gulf of Mexico.  The early period sites show simple agricultural society based on hunting and fishing,.

The Maya are an indigenous people of Mexico and Central America who have continuously inhabited the lands comprising modern-day Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco, and Chiapas in Mexico and southward through Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and Honduras.

The wealth and sophistication of the legendary Inca people lured many anthropologists and archaeologists to the Andean nations in a quest to understand the Inca's advanced ways and what led to their ultimate demise.

The Aztec Empire was peopled by a group that was once nomadic, the Mexicas.  Their chroniclers told them that after their long journey from Aztlán, they found themselves to be outcasts, until they found the sign sent to them by their god Huitzilopochtli, and began to build their city.  And so the Mexica peoples continued, and the Aztec Empire began.
